Who is Charlie Rose?

Charlie Rose is a US TV journalist and former talk show host and worked for Network companies such as PBS and Bloomberg LP. 

However, he is gaining notoriety after he was charged for sexual harassment in 2017. Moreover, he is again being sued for sexual harassment by his makeup artist, Gina G. Riggi, claiming he created a toxic environment where women were sexually harassed, dominated and diminished.

Charlie Rose was born in Henderson, North Carolina on January 5, 1942, and us 77 years old. His parents are Margaret and Charles Peete Sr. His father was a tobacco farmer and owned a country store. Charles full name is Charles Peete Rose Jr. 

Charles graduated from Duke University in 1964 with a Bachelor’s Degree in history. Although he intended to pursue a degree with a pre-med track, he grew interested in politics after an internship in the office of Democratic North Carolina Senator B. Everett Jordan. He earned a Juris Doctor from the same University in 1964. 

Early Profession and Career

Charlie started as a freelancer few assignments while his wife was working at the BBC. However, in 1972, he landed a full-time job as a weekend reporter for WPIX-TV. He earned his break in 1974 after Bill Moyers hired him as the managing editor for the PBS series Bill Moyers’ International Report. He later became the executive producer of Bill Moyers Journal and soon began appearing in camera. He then worked at several networks shaping his interviewing skills until he was hired by KXAS-TV who hired him as a program manager and handed him the late-night time show, that became, The Charlie Rose Show. 

Charlie worked at CBS from 1982-1990 as the anchor of CBS News Nightwatch. His interview with Charles Manson won him a News & Documentary Emmy Award in 1987. After working with Fox-TV for six weeks, Charles left unhappy and started his show, Charles Rose, which premiered on PBS station Thirteen/WNET in 1991-1993. He later moved the show to a studio owned by Bloomberg LP. He was also a correspondent for 60 Minutes II from January 1999-September 2005 and was named correspondent on 60 minutes in 2008. 

However, his career tumbled when eight of his female employees accused him of sexual harassment on November 20, 2017. PBS and Bloomberg LP suspended distribution of Charlie’s show on the day the article was published, while CBS announced it was suspending Charlie pending an investigation. CBS, PBS, and Bloomberg terminated their contracts with Charlie with Rose the following day.

Charlie Rose has a net worth of $40 million as of 2019. He has a jaw-dropping annual salary of $8 million. 

He has maintained a luxurious life and owns a manor in Henderson, California which is around 5,500 square foot. He has condos in Washington D.C. and Paris.

While Charlie remains unmarried today, he was previously married to his ex-wife, Mary Rose. He met her while attending his University and tied the knot in 1968. However, the marriage went cold, and the couple divorced in 1992. 

After his divorce, he started dating socialite, and former New York City Planning Commissioner Amanda Burned in 1992. She is the step-daughter if CBS founder William S. Paley. Regardless, he revealed that he had stopped dating Burden in 2006 at an interview with Financial Reports in 2011. There is no recent news of him dating anyone.
