Who is Lin Shaye?

Lin Shaye is an American film actress and television actress. She has been in the entertainment industry for over forty years; she has done more ninety feature films. Shaye is also known as a scream queen due to her roles in various horror sci-fi thriller films. Lin is also famous for her comedic roles in the movie including Dumb and Dumber; There’s Something About Mary, A Cinderella Story, Ouija, and Insidious films.

Linda Shaye is the daughter of Dorothy nee Katz and Max Mendle Shaye. Her mother Dorothy was a housewife and her father Max was a painter and supermarket owner. She has a brother named Robert Shaye who is a film executive. Shaye’s family is Jewish, and her mom was born in Russia.

Lin attended the University of Michigan and studied acting before moving to NY to work in Off-Broadway productions. Later in 1977, she moved to LA to pursue her acting career.

From the year 1980 to 1996, Shaye has starred in four films by director Walter Hill. To name a few of her works are The Long Riders, Brewster’s Millions, Extreme Prejudice, and Last Man Standing. In 1994, Shaye starred in the comedy role as Mrs. Nuegeboren in the Farrelly Brothers’ Dumb and Dumber. The film was a commercially big success and developed a cult following in the years since its release.

In 2003, Lin played the role of Sonya alongside Cuba Gooding Jr. and Horatio Sanz in Boat Trip. She has been a part of many hit movies including Dead End, The Hillside Strangler, Maniacs, Snakes on a Plane, Under the Gun, Midnight Snack, Time upon a Once to name a few. In 2011, Shaye played a supporting role in the horror movie Insidious. The film received positive response and grosses a total of $97,007,150 worldwide box office collection. She got nominated in several categories of awards including  Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Fright Meter Award, and a Saturn Award.
