Singer and Songwriter, Tony Joe White Dies at 75

The hit songwriter of ‘Rainy Night in Georgia,’ and ‘Polk Salad Annie;’ Tony Joe White has died. The statement released by Yep Roc Music Group this Thursday confirmed that he died at the age of 75.

Who was Tony Joe White?

Tony was a famous country singer and songwriter, who was originally from Louisiana. He made a hit in 1969 by releasing ‘Pork Salad Annie,’ which later got covered by top cover singers like Ray Charles, Hank Williams Jr., Elvis Presley, and more.

Raised by his family on a cotton farm, Lightnin’ Hopkins’ hypnotic sound inspired him to be a singer.

After gaining success from ‘Polk Salad Annie,’ he released ‘Rainy Night in Georgia,’ which also gained immense popularity.
In his five-decades-long career, he was known for country, blues, and rock ‘n’ roll, which helped him earn the name as Swamp Fox.
